Interface Research and Development Operation is stewarding Interface, Inc.'s progress toward becoming a sustainable enterprise by pioneering more friendly technologies, products and processes. The R&D function provides state-of-the-art research capabilities in analytical and organic chemistry and microbiology in its three fully equipped laboratories. Their key research initiatives include; the development of renewable and/or more environmentally friendly raw materials for flooring and fabric products; improving the design of Interface's products and the processes by which they are manufactured; and the development of new recycling technologies. The R&D Team located at the Graham Scott Technical Center in LaGrange, Georgia provides basic research and technical support to all Interface companies around the world and works hand-in-hand with the Corporate Sustainable Operations (S.O.) team. The S.O. Team leads the EcoSense™ initiative that defines our journey to sustainability. It determines where Interface is on that journey using quantifiable metrics systems that allow the Interface companies to measure their individual and collective performance in regard to waste, energy demand, environmental footprint and other sustainability indicators. In addition, the Sustainable Operations department also provides technical expertise and training in Life Cycle Assessment and maintains the sustainability web site.
